What is Mapillary?
Mapillary is a community-based photo-mapping service. Our computer vision platform creates 3D street imagery by stitching together photos taken by anyone using any device. Mapillary smartphone apps enable quick capture while walking, biking, or driving. Upon upload, photos are available on the map within minutes.
Who can participate in Mapillary.edu?
Anyone at any level of education can participate. We welcome universities, high schools, and vocational programs from all over the world to sign up.
What can I photo-map?
You can start with photo-mapping your campus, your college town, and your favorite hike or bike route. For explorers, try photo-mapping your road trips, study abroad location, and field research site.
How do I get started?
Sign up below and tell us a bit about your work. We will get back to you shortly with some ideas and questions.
How is Mapillary used today?
Mapillary community members tell stories through photos of their towns, trails, and travels. Mappers and geo enthusiasts use data from our photos to improve commercial maps and OpenStreetMap. GIS professionals use our ArcGIS app for municipal work or commercial projects, Non-profits and NGOs use Mapillary to create up-to-date maps of developing communities for urban planning, emergency management, and conservation.
What are the benefits?
We provision free use of our off-the-shelf solutions to the academic community. These solutions include the iD editor and JOSM plugin for OpenStreetMap, the Mapillary for ArcGIS app for viewing and editing GIS data, the MapillaryJS library for embedding our photo viewer in any mobile or web application, and the Mapillary API for deeper integrations into educational software. We can work with you to establish inclusion in your curriculum or course credit at your institution. In addition, we will happily support photo-mapping projects with guides, gear, and swag.
